ASRA Conference 2002 Australasian Sound Recordings Association Conference 'Waltzing Matilda Back Home?": Australia has stereotypically been represented to the rest of the world through the images of mateship, the bush and blokes. In contrast, one hundred years ago an urban woman Dame Nellie Melba returned triumphant from Europe as Australia's most prominent international personality. The popularity and fame of expatriate recording artists to the present day seriously questions representations of Australian culture, as does the diversity of Australasian society. The sound collections held in Australasian archives reflect this rich heritage and seriously challenge narrow notions of national identity. The keynote speaker will be Dr George Brock-Nannestad from Preservation Tactics in Denmark, a well known figure in the international sound recording community. Call For Papers Papers should be approximately 20 minutes in length and will be considered for publication in the annual ASRA journal.
