IAML Conference 2004 International Association of Music Libraries, 'Music in a Digital World: Directions, Initiatives,
Collaborations The International Association of Music Libraries (IAML), in association with ASRA, will be holding its Biennial Conference in Canberra from Sunday 12 September to Wednesday 15 September 2004. It will begin with a musical event and welcome reception at the National Library to celebrate the distinguished Australian composer, pianist, researcher and teacher Professor Larry Sitsky on the occasion of his 70th birthday. On Monday, the venue is the National Library of Australia with the theme: Why digital?; Enabling data sharing; Generating digital music collections; Preserving and managing digitally created resources; Online contextual information; and Forum for the young professional. Tuesday is at the School of Music, ANU with the theme: Collaboration which will include Australian, New Zealand and International perspectives as well as Paradisec - preserving endangered music in the Pacific. There will be a visit to the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies Library / Archive followed by a presentation, Making the most of collections online at the National Museum of Australia. The afternoon session is the IAML (Australia) Biennial General Meeting followed by a Reception with the Head, School of Music, Mr Gary France, and a tour of the Music Library. The conference dinner is at AXIS Restaurant, NMA. Wednesday is a joint conference day with the Australasian Sound Recordings Association (ASRA) at ScreenSound. Topics include Is the CD Dead?; Building, managing and delivering audio collections; Describing, preserving and sharing audio objects; and a forum: Whistle while you work: intellectual property and musicians. The conference concludes with a reception, where we hope to welcome the new Director of ScreenSound Australia, Dr Paolo Cherchi Usai.
